General Manager
WMLA Director of Coaching - Red Devil Head Coach
After a hot start to the season the Red Devils know one thing, they will be tough to beat if they can keep everyone in the lineup. The Red Devils started the season by losing a close game in Spartan but they knew they would be better the next time as they were without Clint Lamarsh, Rob Pollock and Doug Bennett. The Red Devils were better, with a full lineup they went on a 5 game winning streak and showed that they will be a tough team to beat this year.
Lacrosse is a tough sport and staying healthy and having depth in your lineup are 2 of the biggest factors that determine if you will be successful or not. Lineup depth for the Red Devils is as good as it's been in years but any team that loses 3 or 4 key players will struggle.
Team leaders and Red Devil veterans Jordan Durston, Drake Brown and Mitch Burton have all been banged up with undisclosed injuries, Jordan Vandamme is missing time because of suspension and Brayden Hopkins has been out of the lineup too.
No matter who coach Knight has in the lineup he always plans on competing with every team they play, but when you play in a small centre depth will always be a challenge.
The goal is still the same, win the division and make a push in the playoffs. There is still lots of lacrosse to play and the Red Devils are at home again this week with a big division game vs London this Wednesday night at 8:00 pm at Wallaceburg Memorial Arena. If the Red Devils can keep winning games in the division until everyone who is banged up gets healthy they will be in a good position for the 2nd half of the season, they still hold 1st place in the Far West division and Wednesdays game vs division rival London will be a big one.
Wallaceburg’s Jordan Durston has been named the Chatham-Kent Local Athlete of the Week for April 22 to April 29.
Saturday, Durston led the Wallaceburg Red Devils Junior B lacrosse team to a 14-13 win over the Guelph Rebels scoring two goals and adding nine assists, for eleven points total in the game.
The Wallaceburg Red Devils take on the Sarnia Pacers, in the Battle of the 40 Highway, for their 2012 Home Opener. The Red Devils are looking to improve on a mediocre 9-11 2011 season. The Red Devils have shown much to look forward to in two preseason tournaments.
