Why play field lacrosse? Here are just a few reasons:
Provides an affordable and fun recreation opportunity with low commitment and demand placed on parents
Builds greater depth of lacrosse skills that box may not. These new skills can then be applied to the box game. ie: learning to shoot hard and with both hands is a strong focus in field lacrosse, that skill can then translate to increased box abilities.
Box players are often limited to, or best suited to, Junior A or B lacrosse opportunities.Field lacrosse is a much more popular game in the US and scholarship and educational opportunities abound for highly skilled Canadian box players familiar with the outdoor game
Canadian field players in US schools are on the rise, last year Division 1 schools reported an increase of 11%, division II showed a 52% increase and division III showed a 48% increase. Canadians are highly skilled lacrosse players and these schools are starting to notice!
Typically, a player’s comprehension, growth and development peaks nearing the end of the season. This is an opportunity to take advantage of that optimal learning window
Opportunity to improve skills in a more forgiving environment than box
This will be an opportunity to learn the field game in a low-pressure environment.
